Description: Rare Early Baseball Collection/Scrapbook Album/Archive, Containing Clippings From College & Professional Sports, Including Baseball, Water Polo, & Hockey At PrincetonAlso includes Signed Letter by Famous Early Pitcher Waite Hoyt, World Series Champion & Hall of Famer DESCRIPTION: This listing is for an UNUSUAL scrapbook album & grouping. Lot includes a 2-page signed letter from famous early pitcher Waite Hoyt, dated May 26, 1953. On his personal stationary, addressed "TO VINNIE". Reminisces about their early playing life together, as well as some of the other neighborhood players from Prospect park including Watty MacPhee, Moran, Goebel, the Bottings, and all the others. LETTER ALSO MENTIONS BABE RUTH & GEHRIG, WHO HE PLAYED WITH. Letter is typed, on Hoyt's personal stationary, and signed in ink by him.Lot also includes a large album covering the period 1917 - 1922, and is absolutely chock full of clippings, souvenirs, schedules, and college sweater letters, most from Princeton University. Most relate to Baseball, but also some relating to collegiate Water Polo and Hockey. Much of it relates to Waite Hoyt and other young team athletes. I believe album was put together by Vinny's daughter Janet, and that all these items belonged to Vinny. He was one of Hoyt's early friends and teamates. Album is old and some of the newspaper clippings are a bit worn, but overall in decent condition. Also included in the lot is an early thank-you note "to Mr. Botting".Waite C. Hoyt was born in 1899 and died in 1984. Hoyt's career started early, and he was called "The Schoolboy". HE WAS ONE OF THE DOMINANT RIGHT HAND MAJOR LEAGUE PITCHERS DURING THE 1920's, AND THE MOST SUCCESSFUL FOR THE YANKEES DURING THAT PERIOD. He played for the NY Giants in 1918, the Red Sox from 1919-20, the Yankees from 1921-30, the Detroit Tigers from 1930-31, the Philadelphia Athletics in 1931, the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1932, the Pittsburg Pirates from 1933-37, and the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1937-38. HE WAS A 3-TIME WORLD SERIES CHAMPION (1923, 1927, & 1928), and a 1969 INDUCTEE IN THE BASEBALL HALL OF FAME. He was a broadcaster for many years from 1942 on, following his playing career, including for the Cincinatti Reds.HOYT WAS AN ESPECIALLY CLOSE AND LONGTIME FRIEND OF BABE RUTH!!!This is a wonderful, unusual collection for any early baseball fan. Especially for pitchers, Hoyt, Babe Ruth, & Lou Gehrig, or regarding the early athletic schedules and information and souvenirs from Princeton University.Hard covered album. Front cover is missing. I would estimate that it has 100+, possibly closer to 200 pages, each covered with items. It is large, measuring about 13" x 11" x about 3" thick. The few attached scans and the limited space for description will not do this justice, but hopefully it will provide an indication. I can assure you that you will be pleased with the rarity and important detailed period content of this early baseball archive!! Especially nice with the history and relationship to both BABE RUTH & LOU GERHIG. SHIPPING TERMS:Buyer pays $30.00 shipping and insurance costs. Very heavy!!
