Description: This rare early left twist handmade German antique marble, has a lovely character with deep ultramarine and raspberry panels rendered in very pleasingly globular, speckled pieces of molten coloured glass on a bright white base. Here and there funky highlights of turquoise and yellow peek out. It is slightly shrunken internally, showing some clear glass, which enhances the impression of movement in the long-cold core. With a finely faceted pontil, indicating that it was made during the earlier phase of swirl production between 1860 and 1880. Earlier marbles like this often have superior quality glass and production standard, and greater collecting appeal.Type: Made in the German glass factories of the 19th - early 20th C, the antique Onionskin type has loads of visual allure. The styling include stripes and strokes or speckles, running vertically all around, and the designs and hues come in many varying combinations; making them highly collectible and a favourite of even the most discerning of enthusiasts.
