Hoya papaschonii is an epiphyte that grows like a shrub. It grows in sphagnum its entire life. It likes to stay moist. If you keep Hoyas you know this is very different than most Hoyas. This plant may be the only Hoya that self-pollinates which is incredible! SOW IN MOSS Seeds were collected 11/25/24. And I strongly suggest sowing the seeds immediately into sphagnum moss. This plant will grow well in moist sphagnum. I sow them on top of moist sphagnum moss. Cover with a humidity dome (I do a cup taped on top of another cup) and place on a seedling heat mat. Leave in the humidity dome on the mat until it sprouts first leaves. Then remove the dome. Using this method, I always have sprouts in 2 - 10 days. I keep them in sphagnum or leca for their entire life and fertilize every watering the same as I do my other hoyas. MOTHER PLANT INFO (mother plant in first picture) I grew the mother plant from seed. I sowed my original seeds on May 1, 2022 and first peduncle formed August 29, 2022. I received 11 seeds in the mail 3 days after they were collected from the pod and 100% of them sprouted in sphagnum moss. Mother plant started putting off blooms around node 7 or 8 and has bloomed at every single node since then. I have the plant on my desk and water it probably every other day. I don’t let the top get crusty dry. And it can sit in a little water so I never stress about having it be too wet. FUN FACTS The plant is known to self-pollinate and may possibly be the only Hoya that does this. Your seeds will be the grandchildren of a seed from Doug Chamberlain.
