Description: For the true Syracuse football fan, Syracuse historian or Heisman Trophy Collector. Here we have a 2 page autograph letter signed by 1961 Heisman Trophy Winner and Syracuse Football Legend, Ernie Davis. Ernie wrote to a fan on January 27, 1960, just a couple weeks after Ernie and the Syracuse football team won their only football national championship, against the Texas Longhorns. Written on Syracuse University stationary. Excellent content whereby Ernie says, in part, “…I hope and pray that I can live up to the vivid picture that you have created of me…”. Well Ernie sure did. He went on to win the Heisman Trophy 2 seasons later, was a 3 time All American, and the number 1 draft pick of the NFL, taken by the Cleveland Browns. Unfortunately, Ernie was diagnosed with Leukemia in mid 1962, and would only live for a short time thereafter, and passed away in May of 1963. Thus, making Ernie’s signature quite rare. Even rarer, are letters written entirely in his hand. The cherry on the sundae is that this item is signed with the famed “44” inscription, the only one that I have ever seen signed this way. This is one of the best Ernie Davis items extant. The letter is about 6 by 8 inches and has been slabbed by Beckett. Please see the pictures for details. There is some glare in the photos and some reflection of my phone in the photos, that’s not part of the item. Condition is very nice. An amazing piece. Shipping to the continental US will be $25.00. Please email with questions. Bid with confidence as I have amazing feedback. Thanks!
