Description: *RARE* Early LA SAVINELLI PUNTO ORO 1004 (1950s-60s) *N.MINT* Estate Pipe +Bonus A very beautiful pipe, although totally classic and minimal. At first glance it reminds of older top rated English billiards (especially Dunhill due also to the dot on the stem), when manufacturers focused more on the cleanness of the briar (no fills) than on its grains. Here we have shape No 1004 (the equivalent of contemporary No 104) which is a classic straight billiard with medium size bowl (similar in size to Dunhill's Group 3), rounded rim and full mouthpiece. Made during the company's first period (before 1970) when the stamp was 'LA SAVINELLI', the shape codes were 4-digit and the dot on the stem was gold. We estimate that the pipe has been made at the beginning of this period, we have never seen before the '880' [in oval] stamp and we do not know what it means. The pipe is in near mint condition, its only fault is the partial ware on the front stamps (the initial L of 'LA' as well as the first letters of 'PUNTO' cannot be distinguished). Bonus, a luxury pipe case, originally destined for blockmeerschaum pipes (see photo).
