VERY RARE HAWAIIAN BEAUTY. This shell, found only in Hawaii, was picked up under a piece of dead coral in 3-5 meters by some lucky guy or gal diving in the crystal clear waters of the aloha state. While photographing it I suddenly noticed the high calloused sides, and thinking I had mistaken a cypraea schilderorum for a sulcidentata again, (it is a lot easier to do than you would think) I turned the shell over expecting to see the white mouth of the schilderorum, when lo and behold, the mouth of this shell was cream colored, it was indeed a sulcidentata! I quickly compared it with the handful of other sulcidentatas that I have, and found that this was the only shell with the propinqua sides, (calloused sides that extend all the way up the sides of the dorsum) the rest were just great sulcis, rats! So, an exceptionally unique shell, and not wanting to be just unique, this very rare beauty has what appears to be a repaired fish bite on the dorsum! If it could talk, what a story it could tell! Another great shell that will look terrific sitting on your shelf! ...The ultra-perfect shell for a first-rate collection. As for normal disclaimers and such... I have tried my best to make sure the photos are accurate color-wise, but as everyone knows, color is a... well, it's tough.
