Description: Offered in this sale is an unusual small antique silver buckle, which, judging from its size and fineness of fabrication, was intended for use as the clasp on a young girls choker necklace. The two halves of the buckle are engraved with the letters L and O respectively, and outlined with an engraved swag border. The reverse of the buckle features a hook on one side and a corresponding slot on the other, while each outside edge features an attached wire bracket through which a piece of ribbon or fabric would be attached for use as a necklace. This piece might also have had other uses. This buckle could have been used to merely attach a decorative ribbon over a person's clothing. I strongly believe this piece to be American. There are no hallmarks which would be quite common for earlier American silver. The engraving is the same style and quality as that found on late 18th-century American silver. Dimensions: 36mm x 25mm or 1 7/16 x 1 inch overall. Marks: None, as would be expected on a piece of this early date. Condition: Excellent with little to no wear. No breaks, repairs or damage.
