RARE Cavalryman's Reminiscences Civil War, 1st Louisiana Confederate Cavalry CSA

Description: A Cavalryman's Reminiscences of the Civil War By Howell Carter Published: The American Printing Company, New Orleans, 1900. FIRST EDITION. 212 pp. Hardcover bound in original green cloth with gilt design on cover. Text is complete, clean and unmarked. Not Ex-Lib. Reminiscences of service with the 1st Louisiana Cavalry, includes an annotated roster of the unit. The author fought at Corinth, Perryville, and Murfreesboro, before transferring to the Louisiana/Mississippi area. The extensive travels of the 1st Louisiana began when they embarked at Baton Rouge on a steamer for Memphis and proceeded by train for Nashville and Bowling Green, Kentucky. The unit retreated southward with General Albert Sidney Johnston in the spring of 1862 and fought at Corinth in northern Mississippi. They then proceeded to the northeast into East Tennessee around Kingston, later moving into Kentucky as a part of Bragg's invasion in the early fall of 1862. They traveled as far north as Versailles, then west to Franakfort and Louisville, reaching a point within twenty miles of the latter place before turning south to take part in the Battle of Perryville, afterwards retreating back into Tennessee. The unit fought at Murfreesboro, move back into Kentucky before being transferred to Mississippi and Louisiana and were operating in Alabama when the end of the war came. Coulter #71; Dornbusch II, 443, Howes-a-C-188. I've done my best to describe the book, but if you have additional questions, please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail.
