RARE Boston Sandwich Overshot Pitcher Ice Bladder Applied Twisted Handle 19th C

Description: Extremely rare opportunity to own a 19th century piece of overshot made by Boston and Sandwich Co. What makes this particular piece so extraordinary is the ice bladder. I believe these pitchers were made for champagne. Funny story...I bought this pitcher in Carpenteria, Ca some 30 years ago and it was sold to me "As Is". I asked what was wrong with it. She looked at me like I had 3 eyeballs and then said, "The gaping hole in the side". Ah, apparently not familiar with ice bladders. They are rare in her defense. The piece overall is in great condition. I have discovered a heat check, break in the rope handle where it is attached to the body. There is right below it a glass florette. It could have happened at any of those applications. The handle is still attached but I would not pick up this piece by the handle (which is unfortunate) This beauty is heavy at 4 pounds 4 ounces and stands 11 1/2 inches tall. If you have never seen a piece like this before it is just wild to see the inverted glass bladder inside. These are either in Museums or sell very high.
