Description: A rare mother of pearl oyster shell calling card holder. Used during the 1800's, calling cards were a symbol of social status and used almost exclusively in the upper class to announce their presence when calling upon a family or person. This dish would have sat in a foyer to collect those cards. No damage to the piece, it measures 6.75" W x 4" T.A great piece of social history!
