Description: Offered this Rare Antique French Bronze Commemorative Plaque "Charlet" C.J. Caunois 1845 measuring approximately 7"W x 1"D and weighing 668 grams. This exceptional bronze plaque features the profile of celebrated french artist Nicolas Toussaint Charlet best known for his military depictions, "Episode in the Campaign of Russia" (1836),"Passage of the Rhine by Moreau"(1837), and "Wounded Soldiers Halting in a Ravine"(1843); it bears his name Charlet to the right and the artist name C.J. Caunois with date of creation/death 1845 below his profile. It is in excellent antique condition with age appropriate patina and wear, and is surrouned with a copper faceplate ring with a raised tab and pin hole for surface mounting on the rear. The copper ring exhibits some minor distortion at the top most likely caused when the plaque was removed.
