Description: Up for sale is this fantastic antique compass binnacle made by Thaxter & Son of Boston, Massachusetts. The lantern burners are marked Convex and have an 1864 patent date on them. This is a parts or repair restoration project. There is no compass, there is no glass in the skylight, there is a significant dent in the base along with several other dings and dents throughout the pedestal and the hood. There is some splitting and ruffled edges in the thin brass lantern cases, on one lantern case the glass insert is broken and missing half. One of the Thaxter & Son tags is chewed up and peeling off. Measures about 25" tall to the lantern vent tops. All the negatives aside this is still a very rare and beautiful piece. Insurance and signature confirmation included on domestic shipping charges.
