Rare 19C 14K Gold Pocket Watch Key Gyro Compass Fob Combo Spinner Charm Pendant

The only thing that would make this antique Victorian watch fob better is if it could be traced back to someone famous. Sadly, the provenance is lost. What remains is both decorative and functional, and is also an engineering wonder. The entire piece measures 38 millimeters tall, 20 millimeters wide and weighs 7 Grams. It is in excellent antique condition, which is truly remarkable given it's age. The fob is very decorative with Victorian era engraving. It even has curly cues on the ball of the key, like a nautilus or snail shell. It would really make a stunning pendant or charm. The bottom cup contains a gyroscope compass. When the fob is flipped bottom up, the compass swivels and becomes visible. What really surprised us is that the center of the fob actually swivels to reveal a watch key! (Prior to 1842, all pocket watches were key wound) The mechanism is very clever as it has a spring inside that folds the key up with a snap similar to a pocket knife. When the key is accessible, the compass is also viewable as it flips up when the key flips down. There are no makers marks of purity marks visible, however we tested it for 10K and the gold marks stayed very strong. We tested it for 14K and the gold marks faded slightly but did not disappear. We are guaranteeing this piece to be 14 gold. Please note that we have not opened the piece up to see if the spring mechanism is gold, and are assuming it is a base metal alloy.
