Description: Desired 1981 President Ronald Reagan Official Inaugural Medal Process Set sanctioned and authorized by the Official Inaugural Medal Committee in 1981 and produced by Medallic Art Co. This is set number 25 of only 30 or less actually produced! This set displays 8 stages of production of one of these ultra high relief inaugural medals made by the Medallic Art Co. It includes: 1) Blank planchet2) 1st Strike3) 2nd Strike4) 3rd Strike5) Trimmed Edge6) Trimmed Edge (surface application / finishing)7) Chemical Antiquing Applied8) Final Finished Medal As you can see, for this 1st term medal, because it was engraved in such ultra high relief, it required 3 strikes to bring up the design in full. The edge flange was then removed via lathe, a chemical antiquing process was applied, and then brushed off, which leaves the final medal. Even though it states 125 process sets were marketed (far fewer were actually been sold - approximately 25-30 sets in total), this is a rare item for the collector of Official Inaugural Medals or Presidential Medals. The wood plaque on which it is mounted measures about 15 inches by 10 inches. These sets rarely come up for sale. Last set sold in March of 2023 from HAKE's Auction house on the internet for $1,947.
