Description: The Broken Coin was a movie serial released by the Universal Film Company in 1915. The film starred Grace Cunard and Francis Ford (he was the older brother of movie director John Ford). Like many motion pictures of the silent era--- The Broken Coin is considered a lost film. Universal issued a promotional token advertising item for the serial. It was an actual coin that featured the film character on the obverse. On the reverse are some Latin words and "The Broken Coin.... Universal... 30 reels-- 15 weeks". The coin is rather large-- it is slightly bigger in size than a half dollar. The token is a very well made heavy metal piece with nice detail. It shows some wear-- but, overall is in nice condition. This is a FABULOUS piece for any serious collector of vintage movie memorabilia or any collector of unusual coins/tokens. A nice piece of history from over a century ago.
