Description: Uncommon RPPC postcard of the Steamship Pomona sinking in the waters of Fort Ross Cove on March 17, 1908, after it ran into underwater rocks. The Pomona was a passenger and freighter steamer 225' long. It was carrying 84 passengers and a crew of 62 men, plus 300 tons of general merchandise. Although the Pomona was a total loss, there was no loss of life or injury durning the rescue....even a parrot and three dogs were evacuated.
