Description: RARE 1860's Nautical Brass Kerosene Oil Lamp Pivoting Swivel Ship Lamp Light Edward Miller Co. Whaling Days This listing is for a great rare example of maritime history / nautical history / whaling ship lamp. It is a brass gimbal lamp. It was designed to pivot and swivel during rough seas. It was made by Edward Miller of Meriden, CT. The Miller company began about 1844. This lamp dates to the late 1860's. This was during the whaling peak out of New London in the 1850-60's. This lamp would have been attached to a wall or to the top of a table. It is ready to use. It has an A. Miller lip burner. The wheel is marked E. Miller. It still has its wick. The kerosene/oil goes in under the wick. This lamp is a working antique. The Edward Miller Company was in business from 1844-1924. What makes this example such a gem is that it is all original - all complete - not polished - retains a wonderful warm patina. NO REPAIRS. No dents. Measures 7 3/4" tall to the top of the font and 11 1/2" tall to the top of the chimney. View pictures to add to the description and judge condition for yourself. Each shows wear from age and use. Photos show surface wear, finish loss, various wear and tear. oil fill caps tight, screws tight, we were unable to remove. Excellent antique condition for an item this age. It has aged as expected.
