Description: Here is a very nice and certainly rare award medal made of silver, in quite splendid condition overall, measuring app. 1 & 1/4" across, with a plain edge, and it has been neatly holed at the top. This early variety "Boston School" medal shows just minimal wear, with only some tiny imperfections and light freckling nothing overly distracting, and I have not done anything to alter or enhance its appearance, with four of the photos having been "enhanced" for clarity. It has acquired an attractive toning over the many years since the medal was struck, and it is identified in Greenslet's "The Medals of Franklin" as GM-353. The obverse features an excellent portrait of the renowned statesman and Renaissance man, and here Benjamin faces left, with "The Gift Of Franklin A D. 1788." around the top, a tiny letter "W" at the shoulder. The reverse reads "Reward Of Merit By The School Committee To", above the engraved recipient's name, which is "G. H. A. T. Thomas", I believe, the date "1838" engraved beneath. Outstanding. $700. Please note I am always happy to combine shipping costs should you win more than one of my auctions, and I usually add just a minimal additional cost per item. Your business is sincerely appreciated!
