Description: The print offered here is a rather rare lithograph of the Ottoman sultan, Mahmud II (1784-1839) who is known for instituting administrative and westernizing reforms in the 19th century Ottoman Empire. He died of tuberculosis. The lithograph is by Karl Joseph Brodtmann (1787-1862), a Swiss printmaker, who is known primarily for his animal studies, but obviously he also did some portraits. The size of the piece is 12 1/2 inches in height by 8 5/8 inches in width (sheet). This print is from my personal collection which I am beginning to sell off. Unless noted otherwise in the description, the prints, art and other items that I sell are not "reproductions". For example, offered maps are of the period. Please check my other listings for additional items of interest. I will combine shipping.
