Description: We are offering this Beautiful Very Old RARE 1800's Solid Sterling Silver Canoe Carson City NV 1897 World Heavyweight James "Gentleman Jim" Corbett VS Australian Robert Fitzsimmons Fight souvenir.It was made in 1895 in Chester England and has the sterling silver hallmarks (see photos).Along one side is engraved "C C" (Carson City) and "1897" the place and year of that record Heavyweight Championship fight.On March 17, 1897, at an arena located on this site, Carson City played host to Nevada’s first World Championship prizefight, a fourteen-round thriller in which the reigning heavyweight titlist, James J. “Gentleman Jim” Corbett, was dethroned by Robert Fitzsimmons.The piece is much nicer than the photos show and has very old dark patina on the sterling silver.It measures almost 7" across and is 1-7/8" wide and 2" tall.The total weight is 61.7 grams.Very beautiful and rare!
