Description: Vintage Raphael Senseman (American Listed Artist: b-1870 to 1965) Mt. Rainier Watercolor Landscape Painting, measuring 20”W and 26”H. Artist Info: Nephew of artist William H. Lippincott, whose work is in the Metropolitan Museum, Boston Museum, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and National Gallery, Senseman is best known for his landscapes -- many inspired by local woodlands and streams -- painted in all shapes and sizes on all types of paper and board. Born in Philadelphia in 1870, Senseman moved to Camden, New Jersey at age seven where, by the time he was 17, he was one of only five artists living in that city. In 1893 he worked at the Joseph Campbell Company -- now Campbell Soup Company -- painting labels on large cans. He moved to Collingswood, NJ in the early 1900s, where he and wife Louise raised five children. Believing every family should have at least one original piece of art in their home, Senseman worked to make that a reality, selling his paintings door to door at prices ranging from 50¢ to $5 or $6. A commercial painter in the truest sense of the word, he painted what he thought would sell in order to support his gowing family. Please excuse any glare on the glass. Photos taken in various lighting, as coloration appears differently, according to this factor. Beautiful, damage free painting. Insured and Shipped USPS Priority, UPS, or Federal Express Home/Ground.
