Description: Vintage shoulder cloth with rattan motif called ragi hotang from North Sumatra, Toba Batak people. Center of cloth is ikat stipple alternating with pinstripes. About 74 inches long without fringe and 30 inches wide. Fringe at each end measures an additional 9 inches. Beadwork on both sides. The bride's clan bestows this type of shoulder cloth on the groom during the wedding ritual. Estimated age is 20th Century. Deep aubergine reddish purple color. Not magenta as it appears in some of the photos. In excellent condition but has some spotting. These may come out with dry-cleaning. I did find P.H written in what looks like marker in one spot. This blends for the most part and is not as visible as the photo suggests.
