Between 1959 and 1963, he studied painting and engraving at the San Alejandro Fine Arts School in Havana, Cuba. From 1965 to 1996, he was a member of the Taller Experimental de Gráfica (TEG) Graphic Workshop in Plaza de la Catedral, his work in the workshop led to his graphic work being more well-known than his painting. Early on, Zarza wielded canons in his works that authenticated him; the fact of accommodating the language of bullfighting with humor in each composition became a distinctive seal in his artistic production. Zarza has contributed to Cuban art by adapting and using elements of expressionism, new figuration, and pop, with a unique approach based on Cuban culture and tradition. He has won important awards. The most relevant are; the Mention in 1968 in the Portinari Prize in Lithography. Exhibition of La Habana'68, Galería Latinoamericana, Casa de las Américas, Havana, Cuba. In 1982 he obtained the Honorary Prize of Plakat Second International Competition of Political Poster. Entre 1959 y 1963 estudió pintura y grabado en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Alejandro, en La Habana, Cuba. Desde 1965 hasta 1996 fue miembro del Taller Experimental de Gráfica TEG, Plaza de la Catedral, su trayectoria en el taller revirtió el hecho de que su obra gráfica fuera mas conocida que la pictórica. Tempranamente Zarza esgrimió cánones en sus obras que lo autenticaron; el hecho de acomodar el lenguaje de la Tauromaquia acriollando con humor cada composición se convirtió en un sello distintivo en su producción artística. Zarza ha contribuido al arte cubano al adaptar y utilizar elementos del expresionismo, la nueva figuración y el pop, con un enfoque único basado en la cultura y la tradición cubanas. Ha sido ganador de importantes premios. Los más relevantes son; la Mención en 1968 en el Portinari Prize in Lithography.
