Description: Antique Victorian Oak Stationary Box Writing Slope R WILLIE HILL & Co GLASGOW DESCRIPTION:This is superb antique Victorian oak stationary box which which is a rare find. This really is a lovely article which is stamped to the interior 'R. WILLIE HILL & Co GLASGOW'. Robert Wylie Hill (c. 1851–1939) was a Scottish importer and retailer who founded the R. Wylie Hill & Co. department store in Glasgow. The lid has a pretty brass shield inlay. the box is complete with it's lock and key which is a lovely feature. The front drops down to reveal the lovely dividers and drawers. There are two drawers to the right and a longer drawer to the bottom which opens reveal a small lidded compartment and all the drawers have pretty shaped handles. There is a piece of blotting paper to the writing slope which could be replaced according to personal taste. The lock is stamped ’PROTECTED 13279 BEST QUALITY PROTECTED 13279’ . The approximate dimensions are:- 13 inches / 33 cm long- 8 3/4 inches / 22 cm deep when closed / 14 3/4 / 37.5 cm when writing slope dropped down- 10 inches / 25.5 cm high AGE:The stationary box is Victorian dating to circa 1900. CONDITION:The stationary box is in lovely condition, just minor knocks and marks commensurate with age and use as can be seen from the photographs. The blotting paper could be replaced and the string / ribbon could be replaced on top of the small drawers to the right according to personal taste . The box is complete with it's lock and key which is a nice feature.
