Description: Grey, Purple Twinned Fluorite Crystal Cluster with Calcite and Siderite Display Specimen - Boltsburn Mine, Weardale A super display specimen of Flourite from Boltsburn Mine in Weardale. The specimen has well formed grey Fluorite crystals up to 15mm. The crystals are mainly gemmy, most are twinned and show as purple in natural light. One face is Fluorite crystals, the other face has Siderite with a few Fluorite crystals on the top. Both sides have clear double terminated Calcite crystals dotted around. As is typical of most Weardale Fluorites, there is a difference in colour between natural and artificial light due to its property of fluorescing under UV light and the pictures show the crystal under both types of light for comparison (the first 6 photos are in natural light). The Fluorite crystals measure up to 15mm on the longest edge. The cluster as a whole measures 11 x 10.5 x 4cm and weighs 789g. (All weights and measures are approximate). This piece comes from the later working of the Boltsburn West levels after 2010.
