Description: You are bidding on one wood ovolo or ovoloe sash router or spokeshave as pictured.I am listing a number of similar sash routers, so for clarity I am calling this one reference letter "G".It is not actually marked Preston or Mathieson, but was probably made by either Preston or Mathieson.There is something faint on the underside of one handle, but I can't begin to make it out. The body is not otherwise marked. Each iron is also unmarked on the front side, but each iron is hand stamped (presumably by a prior owner) "5/8 1 3/4" on the back side. Overall length is about 11-5/8".The third from the last picture shows this router sitting on graph paper with 1/4" squares. The last two pictures are from my reprinted 1899 Mathieson catalog, and it depicts both ovolo and gothic sash profiles which are similar to each other. The gothic profiles because they come to a point are only specified by the sash size, typically between 1/2" and 3/4". The ovolo or ovoloe profiles are specified by both the sash size and the overall width, because the center width can vary. My reprinted Preston catalog has very similar listings, but didn't have the nice graphic depiction, so I used the Mathieson graphic. The catalog IS NOT part of this listing.Condition is good, with quite a bit of the japanning worn off. The cutters have some faint pitting on the front sides, and some light pitting on the back sides. SHIPPING: 2 pounds when boxed, shipped US Postal Service Ground Advantage, insurance is included. The Post Office now has several prices increases during each year, raising a few things but not everything at each increase. And they now raise their rates during the Holidays, which means early October to late January. Their big increases are in January, timed to start at the end of the Holiday rates, and this year is no exception. And it's not just the postage rates, the insurance charges and the delivery signature charges have also gone up. There is now a surcharge for Priority Mail packages over 20" long, and another for Priority Mail packages over 30" long, because those longer packages won't fit in their automatic machines. And the Post Office has discontinued the Regional Flat Rate boxes, which were often less expensive for certain sizes and weights. I try to pick the best shipping option for each listing, based both on what is the least expensive and on what I think is needed to protect the item. If the value is $250 or over, eBay requires your signature at delivery for the buyer and seller protections to be in effect.SALES TAX: Interstate sales tax is now the reality on all the major selling websites including eBay. If I ship to a state where eBay is required to collect sales tax, eBay will charge you the sales tax for your location.
