PRESIDENT John F. Kennedy Signed Autographed Card *CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS* PSA/DNA

Description: Legendary martyred PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES John F. Kennedy signed business card during THE CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS of 1962. For thirteen days in October 1962 the world waited—seemingly on the brink of nuclear war—and hoped for a peaceful resolution to the Cuban Missile Crisis. In October 1962, an American U-2 spy plane secretly photographed nuclear missile sites being built by the Soviet Union on the island of Cuba. President Kennedy did not want the Soviet Union and Cuba to know that he had discovered the missiles. He met in secret with his advisors for several days to discuss the problem. After many long and difficult meetings, Kennedy decided to place a naval blockade, or a ring of ships, around Cuba. The aim of this "quarantine," as he called it, was to prevent the Soviets from bringing in more military supplies. He demanded the removal of the missiles already there and the destruction of the sites. On October 22, President Kennedy spoke to the nation about the crisis in a televised address. This Kennedy signed card affixed to a pink index card was signed on Friday, October 19th, 1962 during the midst of the crisis that would likely bring the world to the brink of nuclear war. On this day, JFK meets with the secretary of defense, Robert McNamara, and the members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff before leaving on a scheduled campaign trip to Ohio and Illinois. President Kennedy would have rushed this signature for a convention attendee before heading to the scheduled event, his mind most definitely on how to navigate the most contentious moment of his presidential career. A remarkable JFK artifact with top provenance relating to the Cuban Missile Crisis, comes with an attendee card from the Association of Illinois Lawyers for the events of October 19th 1962 and a Democratic State Central Committee booklet for the convention that day which took place at Coliseum- State Fair Grounds- Springfield, Illinois.
