These were closely patterned after the German 8mm Mauser 98k rifles. These were a shorter version of the pre-war M1924 bayonets. The bayonets were originally marked in Cyrillic markings but in 1953 changed to the western marking system. It changed to "Preduzece" which in English means "Factory". The factory is still in business today as Zastava Arms. Overall, this bayonet is in Very Good - Very Good Plus condition, considering its age and history. The press catch is functional with very stiff spring tension. The pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. They have light impact marks and scrapes. The finish has turned a darker gray patina color. The screw escutcheons securely fasten the wood grips. They have tool marks, with mostly strong slots. The wood grips has chips, compressions and draglines. They darkened with time. The knife appears straight and not bent. The spine has nicks and dings. The fullers and sides have light scrapes. The blade's cutting edge has no nicks or dings and it appears to have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a sharp straight point. Most of the original finish remains except for some wear on the fuller. The left side guard is stamped with proof marks. The right side ricasso is marked with the original Cyrillic writing (Factory) over "44". The right side guard is marked with the serial number "96066", it does NOT match the scabbard. The metal scabbard is in Fair - Good condition, considering its age and history. The frog stud is securely attached to the body. There are impact marks, oxidation and scrapes throughout. The remaining finish has turned a darker gray patina color. The frog is marked with the serial number "41211", it does NOT match the bayonet. The leather frog is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age and history. The belt loop is intact, there are no rips or tears and the stitching is sewn tightly. The button on the retaining strap is functional and has started to change to a darker golden patina color. There is verdigris where the metal meets the leather. Most of the finish still remains but there is a layer of white discoloration scattered throughout the front. There are NO visible markings on the frog. This bayonet, scabbard and frog will be a great addition to your Yugoslavian rifle, or a bayonet collection in general.
