Description: This Post Office Door was made by Corbin circa 1920. It's made of cast brass and features a an eagle like the US Seal. It's a double dial. Each dial is turned to a specific letter to open. There is a coin slot in the top and the bank is about 5 inches wide, 6 inches high and 4 1/4 inches deep. It's a perfect gift for anyone, any age. Teach a child to save. Help an adult relive their past. The door is made of brass. All of the doors I use in these banks had many years of service in a Post Office. Many like this one are over 100 years old. I've rebuilt them, cleaned off the grime and got the locks working smoothly. They are true works of art deco. Like with most of the wood I use this wood is reclaimed. The cabinet is made with old growth myrtle with a prominent worm track I like to try different woods in my banks. I ran across some myrtle and have really enjoyed the result. It's a beautiful hardwood with a tight grain. It’s very dense and heavy. This old growth wood was harvested over 50 years ago. A gentleman had cut the tree down, milled the wood and made his kitchen cabinets from it. 50 years or more passed and the remainder was unused. I was able to purchase the wood from his widow after the man passed away. She was going to haul it to the dump. It was stored outside which added to the character. This bank has some dramatic grain. I’ve worked with the wood as I found it including an age and weathering related crack in the back..Shipping is included in the price.
