Description: Portsmouth Navy Yard WWII, First Mail for Censorship, Censored December 10, 1941, days after the attacks on Pearl Harbor and the US' formal entry into WWII. Good condition as shown, cover is addressed, stamped and cancelled (cancellation is from the Portsmouth Navy Yard). Somer light general wear and discoloring from age. Envelope is stampled "Censored" in blue ink on the front bottom right side; the words "1st Mail for Censorship" are written in black ink beneath the Navy Yard impression, I assume this was done but the recipient after the fact. This is part of a small collection from a relative who worked as a civilian engineer in the Portsmouth shipyard for many years; there are other naval covers available separate postings including a near duplicate of this cover as well as different submarine launch cachet's (some with invitations to launch events) - please let me know if you are interested in a combined purchase.
