Description: A pretty young woman poses for her portrait at the Vestine studio in Rockford, Illinois. The construction and material of her dress looks quite heavy and the dress exaggerates width of her shoulders to the point that if she was a lineman on the Chicago Bears, she would have no problems blocking two opposing linemen at the same time. She gives new meaning to the saying “she has broad shoulders”. The subject’s name is pencilled on the reverse of the photograph but is not completely legible. It appears to be “M. Isabel”. The Bulletin of Photography (1914) mentions the photographer of this image. The journal reported that August Vestine had sold his photographic studio at 330 East State Street in Rockford to Carl Johnson. This announcement probably means that this image was likely produced before 1914. This vintage photograph measures about 6 5/8″ x 5 1/2″ and is in very good condition (see scans).
