Description: PORTMEIRION POTTERY ENGLAND - FLOW BLUE VINTAGE PITCHER with GRAPES and SCROLLED LEAVES Vintage Victorian style Flow Blue pitcher. Heavily raised bunches of grapes. Grape leaves and vines. Other scroll work as well.Fancy curved handle also in flow blue. Bottom stamp is heavily marked with blue and not entirely legible but certainly that of Portmeirion."Made In England" is legible, around the bottom of the mark. 9 inches tall5&1/2 inches across handle through lipWeight: 1 pound 11 ounces Portmeirion Pottery began in 1960 when pottery designer Susan Williams-Ellis (daughter of Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, who created the Italian-style Portmeirion Village in North Wales) and her husband, Euan Cooper-Willis, took over a small pottery-decorating company in Stoke-on-Trent called A. E. Gray Ltd, also known as Gray's Pottery. Susan Williams-Ellis had been working with A.E. Gray for some years, commissioning designs to sell at the gift shop in Portmeirion Village, the items bearing the backstamp "Gray's Pottery Portmeirionware". In 1961, the couple purchased a second pottery company, Kirkhams Ltd, that had the capacity to manufacture pottery, and not only decorate it. These two businesses were combined and Portmeirion Potteries Ltd was born. No chips. No crazing. NOTE: There is one crack, approx. 2 inches long, at the top of the handle.It is in the body of the piece, under glaze - so, it is a production fault not post production.I don't believe it affects the integrity of the piece nor does it infringe on displayability.But YOU be the judge.
