Description: Up for sale is a gorgeous Porteous 6" x 6" Tile (# V113D), unframed. This tile has a group of blue flowers on a dark blue background. This tile can be framed and hung on the wall (frame not included - I also sell tiles that are framed, see my other listings), used for features in wall tiling (it is standard thickness of wall tile), or shown on a plate display holder (not included). It is a real beauty and you will totally satisfied with the quality of this item. This one is reminiscent of the Art Noveau and Arts & Craft style and will look great in any home. Porteous tiles are not cheap reproductions or imaged pictures on tiles, but hand-made tiles with great relief and hand-painted and fired. Very similar to Motawi tiles, just standard thickness and glossy. This tile has no crazing/crackling/speckling nor any other characteristics of a few of my tiles. I specify these types of characteristics and add detail photos for the few tiles which do. Some Majolica tiles have a characteristic known as crazing (or crackling) - these are tiny cracks that form during the cooling process, give it character, and is not a defect. The pictures may not fully show these cracks (sometimes too small to be able to be seen in the pictures), so please be aware of this when purchasing. I will add a detailed picture for those few tiles which have this characteristic, zoom in to ascertain the effect. Search Google for crazing and you will also understand what this characteristic is. I was fortunate enough to be able to buy out the largest stock of Porteous tiles in the US from a wholesaler who was retiring. Porteous is no longer exporting to the United States, so these tiles will become difficult to acquire fairly quickly. If you order 2 or more of any of my tiles please be sure to use the Cart feature for shipping savings. If the cart does not work (happens often) then please use the Send Quote option or send me an email with your desired tiles and I will provide exact costs - I do not make money off of shipping. Porteous Tile is a family business that has been making some of the world’s most beautiful tiles for over 25 years. The tiles are handmade in Wellington, New Zealand, in a studio located at the home of Neville and Gill Porteous. After many years growing up surrounded by tiles, Ben and Sarah Porteous (children of Neville and Gill) have joined Porteous Tile and are continuing the family tile making tradition. The first tiles produced by Porteous Tile over 25 years ago were reproductions of some of the most iconic designs from the Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts eras (1890-1920); they still produce these tiles to this day. Over the years the range of designs has expanded into many different areas. Porteous Tile grew out of a passion for tile and a love for working with clay. The processes used combines traditional methods for making hand made tile with some innovative new techniques that have been fine tuned and perfected over the years.
