Description: Poland's version of the Soviet SSh-40 helmet. This example has been painted gray, for naval use - both regular naval personnel and naval infantry wore them. Unlike the majority of Polish helmets, which were refurbished with upgraded liners in the 90s, this helmet has the older-style leather liner and chinstrap. It includes the net as well, although I cannot for the life of me figure out how it goes on. There is a big rust ring on one side of the helmet, and a couple other small spots of surface rust. Those add character, of course, and are probably completely appropriate for a helmet that would have spent all its time around the ocean. It's unlikely to be service-related damage, though, as the condition of the interior makes me think it was never issued. -------- I am a longtime collector of Cold War military equipment.
