Description: This is a really fun Small Piggy Bank with a Brown & White Bird painted on one side and a couple of White Storks on the other. This piece is all handmade & hand painted in the Burnished pottery tradition called bruñido by Antonio de Jesús Díaz Medrano and his Mother. She makes the Clay pigs and Antonio does the painting and burnishing. Antonio is a young artist from Tonalá in Jalisco Mexico, he comes from a long line of ceramic artists. I have two more of these Piggy Banks (see photo # 6) or go to my Ebay Store for a larger selection of this artists pottery...It measures 5 1/2 inches tall by 6 inches tall & 3 1/2 inches Wide. "He comes from a family of artisans, where he grew up with a taste for preserving family traditions, and like every Tonalteca child the trade, he learned from his parents; María Refugio Medrano Lumus and Roberto Díaz Jarero. Today Antonio represents the 5th generation of artisans, which he represents with great pride….. His family has been dedicated to the craft for generations. "I was born and grew up in mud," says Antonio, who at 25 years of age has earned recognition for the artistic quality of his pieces." This Bank is a wonderful example of Mexican Folk art and Ceramic traditions from this area of Mexico. This is a newly made piece and is in perfect condition and is on the bottom.
