Description: A piece of beige carpet measuring 1 3/8" x 1 1/2", mounted on a wooden plaque measuring about 5" x 7". The plaque states: A PIECE OF HISTORY -- This is actual carpet from the Watergate Offices of Democratic National Headquarters, Washington, D.C., at the time of the historic break-in, 2:30 a.m., Saturday, June 17, 1972. 'A COLLECTOR'S ITEM' Mounted on the carpet is a small, decorative yellow bug. On the reverse of the plaque is an Affidavit of Authenticity dated August 19, 1975, and numbered 1438A. Condition is as shown in photos. The sticker on the front of the plaque is scuffed. There is a nick on the bottom edge of the plaque. There is some staining to the affidavit of authenticity, which does not affect the text. Our father loved to acquire small things that were once a part of large, historic objects. Previously we have sold a piece of canvas from Amelia Earhart's airplane, a piece of wood from Independence Hall, a piece of wood from the Brooklyn Bridge, an ornament made of copper from the Library of Congress roof, and other similar objects. The piece offered today combined that interest with our father's fascination with the Watergate scandal. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Our father was a bibliophile who collected rare books, letters, and ephemera for more than 60 years. For now and into the foreseeable future, we will be listing rare paper items from his estate. Take a look at all our items for sale. We combine shipping upon request. Please LET US KNOW if you’ve purchased multiple items so we can combine.
