Description: Phyllis Newman Signed 6 3/4 x 9 3/4 March 15, 1978 Theater 4 page Notice !!! in very good condition - with no wear Signed "Phyllis Newman" During a fifty-year career on stage, in films and television, she is remembered for her successful body of work on Broadway. Born into a Jewish family, she began entertaining at an early age and made her public debut on the radio program "Major Bowes Amateur Hour" when she was only four years old. From this experience, she performed on the club circuit in Atlantic City and Vaudeville, prior to making her Broadway debut in the Leland Hayward and Joshua Logan play "Wish You Were Here" (1952 to 1953). She made her motion picture debut with a minor role in the film "Picnic" (1956) and began to appear regularly on TV during this period, with an episode from the series "Kraft Theatre." During the running of the production "Bells Are Ringing" (1956 to 1959), she met and later married lyricist Adolph Green who she remained with from 1960 until his death in 2002. She distinguished herself when she received a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for "Subways Are for Sleeping" (1961 to 1962). Additional film credits include "Let's Rock" (1958), "Bye, Bye Braverman" (1968), "To Find a Man" (1972) and "The Human Stain" (2003). She received a Tony Award nomination for the Neil Simon play "Broadway Bound" (1987). She had the distinction of guest hosting "The Tonight Show" roughly 80 times. Additionally, she was associated with numerous game shows which include "What's My Line?" and "Match Game." Her other TV credits include "The Wild, Wild West," "Thirtysomething" and "Murder, She Wrote." Her daughter Amanda Green became a musical lyricist.
