Description: EXTRA INFOPHOTO DEFENDING DORSET: CREECH BARROW AUXILIARY UNIT OPERATIONAL BASE (1) -AUXILIARY UNIT OPERATIONAL BASE: DOB ID: S0008521DURING WWII GREAT BRITAIN WAS THE ONLY COUNTRY TO HAVE HAD AN ORGANISED RESISTANCE MOVEMENT IN PLACE PRIOR TO AN INVASION OR OCCUPATION. THIS HIGHLY SECRET ORGANISATION CONSISTED OF SMALL GROUPS OF LOCAL MEN WHO WERE FORMED INTO UNITS KNOWN AS 'AUXILIARIES'. DURING AN INVASION THEY WOULD HAVE IMMEDIATELY GONE TO GROUND IN SPECIALLY PREPARED HIDEOUTS TO REMAIN HIDDEN UNTIL THE INVASION FORCES HAD PASSED THEM BY. THEY WOULD HAVE THEN EMERGED TO CREATE HAVOC AND MAYHEM ON THE ENEMY WITH WEAPONS AND EXPLOSIVES HELD IN STORE IN THE HIDES. THEIR CHANCES OF SURVIVAL WERE PRETTY SLIM THEY KNEW THAT CAPTURE TORTURE AND EVENTUAL EXECUTION PROBABLY AWAITED THEM.DORSET HAD ABOUT 32 'HIDES' OR OPERATIONAL BASES THAT WERE BUILT MAINLY BY THE PIONEER CORPS OF THE ROYAL ENGINEERS. THIS ONE SURVIVES IN NORDEN WOODS AT CREECH BARROW AND ALTHOUGH ITS TWO MAIN UNDERGROUND BUNKERS HAVE LONG SINCE COLLAPSED THE REMAINS OF MUCH OF THE ORIGINAL STRUCTURE CAN STILL BE SEEN. THE VIEW HERE IS OF THE REMAINS OF THE MAIN CHAMBER - NOTE THE VENTILATION PIPE ON THE RIGHT IN THE FERNS. 2017 COPYRIGHT (Photograph and text in Extra Info) MIKE SEARLE PHOTO PAPER THICKNESS NORMAL PHOTOGRAPH THICKNESS NOTES REF NO MSV-1569 PHOTO SIZE SIZE 6 X 4 inches CONDITION: SOME CROPPING OR WHITE LINES TOP/BOTTOM MAY OCCUR DUE TO PHOTO RATIO WATERMARK IF PRESENT ON THE IMAGE WILL NOT APPEAR ON ITEM SENT TO YOU: NOTES This is a print and supply service for an image that is COPYRIGHT (Photograph and text in Extra Info) Mike Searle obtained from GEOGRAPH and licensed for reuse under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0 Generic License details available here: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/ MANY OTHER ITEMS ARE BEING ADDED TO MY SHOP DAILY
