Description: This listing is for the original Peter Hurd lithograph that you see in the photos. I purchased it at an estate sale in Oregon where I was not told its history. According to my research that might flawed:It is a black and white lithograph, untitled but referred to as "The Water Tank/Windmill in the Moonlight," that was produced in 1936. It bears the artist's signature, "Peter Hurd," in the lower right corner of the plate. Peter Hurd, an American artist born in Roswell, New Mexico in 1904, left his appointment to West Point Military Academy in 1923 to pursue his career in art. He studied as a private pupil under artist N.C. Wyeth in Pennsylvania for ten years. In 1929, he married Henriette Wyeth, eldest daughter of the artist. The couple made their home in Hurd's "homeland" of New Mexico. Hurd is recognized for his artistic style, in various mediums, of depicting the New Mexico way of life in landscapes and portraits. He passed away in 1984. There is no frame. It is matted with some white paper and cardboard backing like you see in the photos. There is also a stiff plastic like Lucite cover for the mat and print. It was like that when I purchased it and I suspect that is how it was originally when it was framed or originally sold. The print measures close to 9 3/4 by 8 1/4 inches. The paper that the print is on measures close to 13 3/4 by 10 5/8 inches. The mat measures close to 18 3/4 by 14 7/8 inches. Print and mat etc. together weigh close to 1 pound 10 ounces. The condition is much like you see it in the photos. The Lucite like "glass" has a few liight scratches that are not easy to see unless it is held up to a light. A close-up shows a tiny dark smudge on the mat. The back of the print looks like it is toned a light brown color from age. There are some minor rolling distortions in the paper of the print that are somewhat more noticeable when viewed from the reverse with the light shining at an angle like I show in a photo. There are many rolling distortions in the shape of the paper that covers the print between the print and the cardboard. Otherwise, this item is fine and as shown. My photos should give you a good idea of its general condition. I guarantee this lithograph to be as described and represented by the photos. The photos are part of the description. Please look at all of them. Please know that the lighting in my photos is uneven and that there might be shadows or reflections. The colors on my monitor look close to but not exactly like the actual colors. Different monitors may show different colors. I often say that an item measures or weighs “close to” because in my opinion no measurements are exact and some things are difficult to measure. I like to leave feedback after I know that the item has arrived and that the buyer is satisfied. I reserve the right to cancel any bids without explanation. I frequently purchase signature delivery for my more valuable packages because of the possibility of them being stolen off of a porch or damaged by weather. I often but not always ship the same or the next day. Often, I have a custom made box for larger items and that might result in a short delay. When I use packing peanuts, they are usually biodegradable. Sometimes, I use used boxes. Please email me with any questions or suggestions. I do not ship on weekends. I might not be available to answer email on weekends.
