Description: Peru TORITO DE PUCARA Bull 5 inches in height Handmade Peruvian Folk Art Terracotta Figurine. DESCRIPTION: Beautiful Vintage Peru Torito de Pucara Bull 5 inch Handmade Peruvian Folk Art Terracotta Figurine. Partially Glazed Hand Made Local Pottery. Hand Painted. With a loop for hanging. This is an example of hand made Peruvian folk art pottery that was usually unsigned and sold to tourists. The “Torito de Pucará” is made of clay, and handpainted by artisans in the Peruvian Andes. Traditonally, they are placed around the house and on the roof for good luck, prosperity, wealth, strength, resilience, health, crop and animal fertility and to protect and strengthen the families. They are typically given as presents and most houses in southern Peru have the bulls on their roofs. They originated from Puno, a mountainous region in southeastern Peru from precolonial times. The Toritos in their various forms and colors are expressions of Peruvian cultural heritage, as well as expressions of the ancient Tiahuanaco and Inca cultures. See all photos
