Pennsylvania Adjutant General Annual Report 1866-1000s Civil War Soldier Names

Description: Offered is the antique book "Annual Report of the Adjutant General of Pennsylvania for the Year 1866", printed in 1867 by Singerly & Myers in Harrisburg. The book lists the companies of volunteer militia organized at the time, as well as the names and ranks of thousands of "mustered out" soldiers who fought in the Civil War, grouped by unit. There is also a section of militia who were never mustered during the war. This is a rare find; at the time of original listing I could find only one other copy for sale on eBay. The thick book is approx. 9 3/4" x 7" and contains 1,221 pages, including the unit index. It is in good condition. The hard brown textured cover has moderate wear, with some small surface bits missing. The back cover has a split along the spine for about 60% of the way from the top, but is still partially connected the rest of the way. The gold words on the spine are still partially visible. There is no cracking the front cover. The white endpapers have browned and have some foxing. There is an inscription in pencil inside the front cover; it is faint but it appears that the book may have belonged to a Col. Shaffer (see photo # ). I see no missing or torn pages and all are well-attached to the binding. A few have some light edge wear. They have browned slightly and there is occasional light foxing but all text is readable. I see no writing in the book other than that inside the front and back covers and adjacent blank pages. I have a lot of experience with vintage and antique books but am not an expert so please let me know if my description is missing information and you have additional questions.
