Description: Peggy Bacon print SOCIAL GRACES nightclub party dance 1939 vintage WPA print Title: SOCIAL GRACES Artist: from an etching by Peggy Bacon Medium: Print: | Collotype Year Issued: 1939 Dimensions: 12.75 x 9.50 inches Paper: Wove, medium weight Reverse: Printing Color: black & white The reverse side is printed with a paragraph about the artist and the original artwork. This artwork was printed over 80 years ago, on high quality paper, using the OPTAK process, by master lithographer George Miller. About the artist: Margaret Frances "Peggy" Bacon (May 2, 1895 – January 4, 1987) was an American printmaker, illustrator, painter and writer. Bacon was known for her humorous and ironic etchings and drawings, as well as for her satirical caricatures of prominent personalities in the late 1920s and 1930s. Series: WPA "A Treasury of American Prints" was published in 1939 at the onset of WWII, with the intention of being taken apart and the individual plates being framed and displayed. It gave ordinary, working class Americans the opportunity to decorate their homes with the popular art of the period. Vintage art prints from OldPaperShop have a wonderful nostalgic character that are just not found in recent reproductions. The work of the printer craftsmen, the feel of the paper, the antique patina, the slight roughness of the ink where it was impressed on - or into - the surface of the paper cannot be duplicated with modern methods. The old printing presses are just no longer in operation for commercial purposes. In view of this impending scarcity, many of our customers come to OldPaperShop to find prints and illustrations for historical reference, educational materials, or for genealogy research. Others search them out for creative purposes. An authentic vintage art print will make a unique addition to an altered art, journal, memory book, or scrapbook project. Still others may be hunting for uncommon wall art or home decor, to place in a decorative or antique frame for display in their home, office, nursery, classroom, restaurant or pub. Whatever your purpose is, we hope you are inspired to dream, design, create, and - most of all - enjoy this little artifact from days gone by.SKU: TAP-001 Quality Packaging: We package your order with care using archival-safe, waterproof materials and reinforced mailers to protect your artwork.
