The 52-page Journal chronicles the history of the German immigrants that settled the Hill County of Central Texas. From 1846 the citizens of Fredericksburg, Texas worked to gain rail service for their hill country community. Finally, in 1913, the SAF&N was able to successfully build into Fredericksburg after constructing a 910-foot tunnel and a 740 foot long, 46-foot high trestle. The 24.3-mile line went into receivership and was finally sold on the steps of the Gillespie County court house in 1917.
