This mask has been painted with black earth pigments several times for ceremonial use. This unique Wood mask has a narrow elongated form with a chin tapering to a point. It is extremely hollowed and constricted underneath the eye area with pierced eyes flanking a raised middle ridge. On top of the ridge sits another face mask, and their are piercings in the ears for attachments. The elongated nose underneath has a bow-shaped projection, representing a spirit. Within the Lower Sepik area, it is generally accepted that long pointed noses represent spiritual beings while short naturalistic ones portray true ancestors.
