Pair Antique 1900-1920 Child Sized School Desks + Chairs Oak Homeschool Playroom

Description: Beautiful pair of antique children’s school desks with child-sized chairs. These are solid oak construction; one top is oak and one is maple. Original finish except the desk surfaces and some areas on the sides and backs were sanded down to get rid of old initials, deep or inappropriate carvings, uneven surface defects, and splintery areas. The sanded surfaces were then oiled so the desk surfaces were protected and could be used by my children at home. Each desk has a large desk surface area with sizable compartments for storage of coloring books, notebooks, schoolbooks, paper, pencils, crayons or Legos. The desks and chairs have all their original hardware, though some small pads have been added under two of the desk glides to make the desks sit solidly. Excellent condition overall, though there is some wear and tear and fading of old finish as expected for age and the fact that these were used in actual classrooms for many years beginning in the early 1900s. I got these desk sets from St. Benedict Catholic School on Irving Park Road and Leavitt Ave in Northside Chicago, which opened in 1902. My children went there for their early education, and when they were upgrading desks at the school, parents were allowed to pick a set to take home for every child if they so desired. These are perfect for a playroom or as desks for homeschooling (we used them for both) and are sized really well for kids. Please examine all pictures carefully to accurately zassess the condition of the desks and chairs; more photos are available upon request. Desk surfaces are 24” x 18”, height of desk is 29.5”. Compartment sizes are approximately 20” x 14” x 4”. Chair back height is 29” and the seat height is 16”. The seat itself is 13.5” at the rear which widens a to 15” at the front, and 13.5 inches long. Desks weigh 27 lbs.
