Description: Absolutely stunning original painting by Roy Boomer Gillis titled “Distant Thunder”. I believe this depicts a monsoon storm over the Sonoran desert possibly at Lake Powell. There is some damage to frame that can be seen in photos but seller doesn’t feel this detracts from piece. Framed it measures approximately 23x19” and painting measures approximately 14 1/2x 10 1/2”. It is signed and dated 2005. Please see photos for details and thank you for your interest! Roy Gillis Obituary Published by Legacy on Feb. 26, 2024. Roy E. (Boomer) Gillis Jr of Page AZ, formerly of North Bend NE died peacefully February 24, 2024 at St George Utah Hospital at the age of 80. Boomer was born in Omaha, NE on August 30, 1943 to Roy and Geraldine (Jones) Gillis. When was the artist born? The creativeness was certainly with him growing up in North Bend where he graduated from North Bend High School in 1963. His talent for painting developed as he studied his art at Midland College in Fremont, the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and the College of Southern Utah. It was in the desert that his art revealed itself completely to him. The seclusion of the southwest took Boomer away for the greater part of his life, to paint, create and evolve. Others have enjoyed his painting as well. This includes shows at Wesleyan University, Lincoln NE; Midland College, Fremont NE; The University of Southern Utah; The State Bank of Southern Utah, Cedar City UT; The Justice Building and the Lake Powell Museum in Page AZ to name a few. Boomer enjoyed volunteering with the D.A.R.E. program of Page AZ. He also had a love of music, the guitar was his instrument of choice, and folk music was his favored music style. Boomer is survived by his daughter Salem Gillis-Vine of Texas, brothers Robert Gillis (Eileen Johnson) of Plainview NE and Gary (Marsha) Gillis of North Bend NE, nephew Daniel (Nicole) Gillis of Omaha NE, nieces Shelly Gillis (Craig Duncombe) of Omaha, Elizabeth (Ross) Lafleur of Hooper NE and Melissa (Demetri) Fountas of Omaha NE. He was preceded in death by his parents and niece Patricia Cantu. The family will have a private memorial service at Armstrong Cemetery in Rushville MO where he will be buried next to his parents.
