Description: 1/2 lb canister of Mead's Pablum likely dating to the 1930's, loaded with great advertising text, out of Englewood Indiana. I am not certain of date but the product started in 1931, and a kind eBay user informed me that this example should be pre-1942 due to the AMA seal. The carton is approx. 6" high and 4" in diameter. Pablum was primarily a baby food cereal, but the container reads "used in the special diets of children, convalescents and adults." It was not the first baby food marketed to the public but it was the first that did not require cooking and came as a dried product. Just add milk or cream, hot or cold. There is a great deal of text to enjoy on this carton, much of it explaining the nutrition of the product including that it proudly contained powdered beef bone! Recipes, feeding charts and health tips - it is a wealth of information about the pre-war American kitchen. Cardboard and paper, but still sturdy and pretty clean 9 decades after it was first sold, this is a rare vintage container. Please see condition description for additional information.
