Description: This GREAT Early 1940s True Vintage STACK (Borsalino? Stetson?) Beaver Fifteen - Color is Bone or SilverBelly color (Read Below) - Fedora, this is a PERFECT size 7-1/2. With a 2.9 inch wide bound brim edge. The Stetson Stratoliner style! But this has a 1.2 inch Grosgrain Ribbon, more like the original Stetson Playboy model. This really makes the fedora stand OUT in any crowd! Every once in a great while we run across an OUTSTANDING FEDORA HAT! This is one of them! Thank you to one of Dads hat collectors for helping us with this listing! He is a Great Hat Collector and is very knowledgeable about True Vintage hats and helps Dad out! So MANY MANY THANKS! He has not only verified information but has added to our knowledge of Stack’s Very Fine Hats! This Beaver Fifteen is exactly what you’d expect in a True Vintage Fedora! Extremely Soft and Pliable! So easily shaped! The current shaping was steamed into the hat. The original shaping was not well defined and because it didn’t fit well inside that OLD Borsalino hat box it did take some time to really shape this into what you see pictured!The original thin tissue paper hat protector was still on the fedora when it was removed from the hat box. It’s still in good condition. Yes it’s very delicate and it may break a bit more. Again this is a very very thin, well aged tissue paper hat cover. So rarely do you still find these with the hat anymore! NOTE: we found an Excellent 1930-1940s Stetson Hat box that is Perfect for this Great Fedora! Read below and see pictures. The Borsalino hat boxes were just a to small and the hat barely fit inside the while Borsalino hat box. We took pictures so you could see how they fit inside. This is a LARGE Stetson hat box with its original hat holding insert set. The box itself is still in excellent condition with only some minor paper wear. The bottom is solid also. The leather strap has a small tear on one of the holes for the buckle pin. The leather is also a bit dry. Dad is adding a treatment of glove oil to it but it’s still going to be dry. It may help soften it up a bit but not much. It’s still fully functional. Since this is a larger hat box it won’t misshape this fedora. If you have any questions please write to us. ORIGINAL NOTE: Found stored in that 1930-1940s Borsalino Hat Box but after shaping it, it no longer fits inside. We tried placing it inside that 1950-1960s Borsalino hat box but it barely fits. The newer Borsalino hat box is still in outstanding condition for its age, see pictures. You can see that on one side it has a slight bend on it though. Still has its original hat holding insert set. We have already added that into the price and the shipping cost. But we want you to be fully aware how it barely barely fits inside and may need a bit of shaping when removed? Inside the hat box we found what we believe is the Original Feather set but it is barely broken so it has been removed. If we do find a worthy Feather set we will add it to the fedora. Now, though we strongly believe that the Fedora is from sometime in the 1930s and that Borsalino “O.P.S. Sec.43.CPR7 $20” tag but we aren’t certain it actually belongs to this hat? The actual size tag does NOT look like a Borsalino size tag but the price is what this hat would have cost. Does anyone recognize that size tag? And who made this great hat? We are stumped! There was some original 1940-1950s? Borsalino paperwork inside the Older Borsalino Hat box that we are including in this sale. It just a very interesting ad! It also has the Italian cross reference to sizes printed on it. We are pretty certain that it was sold at TULLY’S, located in Omaha, at 5TH & DOUGLAS! TULLY’S was a very high end store and this was a very expensive hat at that time period! We just sold the first STACK fedora to one of Dads private hat collectors. And that is what was printed on the leather sweatband and liner. We would find it hard to believe that there that many stores selling a “STACK” banded fedora.So that you can see that First Stack fedora we are going to add a couple pictures at the end of the photo gallery. Again it’s just as a reference and NOT FOR SALE! See last 3 pictures. Also the rectangular impressions on the underside, right in front of the leather sweatband we have only seen on another 1930s through the 1940s Borsalino Fedora. So it’s another indication that this maybe a Borsalino manufactured hat? So you can see a bit of very minor wear. We filled the picture gallery so you can see every detail! The leather sweatband is COMPLETELY and SECURELY ATTACHED all the way around! We lifted it up and took a picture so you can see that it’s just as we described! This is actually one time I would have really liked it if Dad would have used one of those Orange Cleaning Sponges that one of Dads hat collectors continues to write us about. I wonder how pristine this can be cleaned up if it had been used? Since Dad refuses to change his methods after working hats for nearly 50 years because he believes that it would be trying to “HIDE” something? We have no experience with the Orange Cleaning Sponge so we can’t tell you what it will look like afterwards. Anyway these is nothing really wrong with this one of a kind hat! It’s was only cleaned with Dads Horsehair Brush and still looks outstanding! This is a VINTAGE Beaver Fifteen and It’s nothing like what you would compare to any newer hat! It’s just very very soft and thick beaver, soft and thick and so easy to shape! But we like the current shaping and will leave it that way. I guess it could be reshaped into an Open Road style but you’ll need to write and ask if Dad is will to reshape it? This is currently in a “Pinched Crown - Center Dent” shape. You can still see that original “bump” on the top center crown. It’s just an OUTSTANDING fedora! The brim can be turned up or down, as you may like it? We can steam that shape into the hat, just write and ask. This style fedora can be seen in all those 1930s through the 1950s Movies! Favorites of those Great Movie Stars. You’ve seen this style hat in so many old movies! My Grandson says he’s seen it in that “BORSALINO” movie. Now Dad and I will need to watch that one! Currently Dad and I are not agreeing on the color! The color of this hat is best represented but the few pictures after the whole underside picture. dad thinks it’s a SilverBelly color but I do NOT agree! I believe it’s more of what Stetson calls “Palomino” color or Bone color. You are buying what’s is pictured after the whole underside of the fedora.If you have any thoughts on the color please write to us. Dating was easy to the 1930s to 1940s! This has a SILK liner (this is a silk liner not satin, you can just touch it and feel the difference) with NO liner cover! No “Onion Skin” or thin plastic liner cover! The beaver is EXTREMELY soft and thick. NOTE: we are trying to find a better hat box for this OUTSTANDING Fedora. We really would like to find one that is large enough to comfortable fit this hat. What we worry about is since this barely fits it may need a bit of shaping when removed from the hat box. So far it doesn’t appear so but it’s only been inside the newer Borsalino hat box for 2 days. Thank You. So there is a size tag that states “7-1/2” and this actually measures to a PERFECT 7-1/2! So we measure each hat 3 times to verify its actual size. This could easily be stretched to a slightly larger size. Not to a 7-5/8 but a bit larger than a perfect 7-1/2, if you needed a bit more? Many of Dad’s hat buyers are using that $15 Amazon Hat stretcher getting Excellent results. It just takes time and patience. Dad always applies Glove oil before stretching a hat. Apply Glove oil, allow it to absorb and dry, repeat, apply Glove Oil and allow to dry. The start the stretching process. It can take from a couple of days to a couple of weeks to get the stretch to remain in the leather sweatband’s memory. If you need more help please write to us. This one folds under the string because there is no loop on it. This is all original to this fedora! We have seen this same type of coat trolley string on the 1930s to early 1940s Borsalino hats.
