Description: In this book “Out of the Woods – Wild Animals Stories” published 1941 by Dodd, Mead & Company author Irving Crump shares “authentic stories that not only take us into the woods to watch wild animals going about their fascinating and ever dangerous daily ways of living and surviving, they also offer some interesting accounts of what happens when these wild animals meet with man or his animal friends under unusual circumstances”. There are eleven stories illustrated by Enos B. Comstock with wonderful black and white etchings. Irving Crump (1887 – 1979) was a writer on numerous outdoor books and was the editor of Boy’s Life. He had said at ten years old he had three related ambitions: 1) to meet and know Dan Beard, 2) to write stories for boys as full of adventure as those of his favorite author, Kirk Munroe and 3) to edit a boy’s magazine. His dreams were fulfilled and he has left a lasting legacy in his stories left behind. Enos Benjamin Comstock (1879-1945) was an American artist that was prolific during the Golder Age of Illustration. He also illustrated stories for Boy’s Life and numerous children’s books.
