Description: ORIGINAL WW1 U.S. ARMY M1910 T-Handle FIELD E-TOOL ENTRENCHING SHOVEL with cover. Unknown if cover is original to the shovel. The tool was initially called a shovel and was soon officially designated as an entrenching tool. With the cover hooks. this can be worn on the pistol belt, ammunition belt or on the back of the haversack.Shovel is in good shape with little rust, some paint worn off, but quite usable. No detectable marks. The cover is is in sadder shape with one hole near the center see photo) and considerable wear and hold at where the blade sits. Several severe stains. Acid stain has caused a hole in the cover.The fabric around the hole is stained and brittle, indicating contact with something acidic it my have been paper pulp newspaper, which has destroyed a lot of fabrics over long term storage, or something more acidic. There are also tears in the edge where the two halves were sewn together.
